About Tean & District Branch

Tean & District Branch of the Royal British Legion in North Staffordshire was reformed in 197*.

The Royal British Legion was formed in 1921 and is the nation’s premier ex-service charity. Its objects include promoting the welfare of ex-service men and women and their dependents and relieving hardship among them where it exists; raising and distributing money for these purposes; assisting serving men and women to return to civilian life. Tean & District Branch carries out these objectives locally, from visiting the sick to obtaining grants for welfare purposes or arranging convalescence. Remember you don’t have to be a Legion Member to ask for help from us.

Tean & District Branch meets on the third Tuesday of each month, at 7.30 pm in Tean Parish Hall, Vicarage Road, Tean. New members are always welcome to join and these days you don't have to have an ex-service connection.

The Branch organizes the annual Poppy Collection in the village. Tean has two War Memorials. On Remembrance Sunday we march from the High Street Memorial to the one in the Church Yard at Christ Church, where the silence is kept and the wreaths are laid. On the 11th of the 11th we lay a wreath on the High Street memorial and keep the silence.

The High Street memorial was set up by Tean Mill and names recorded were all once workers at the mill.

The known names of all those from Tean who died in both World Wars are recorded in the main Memorial in the Church in the main Memorial in the Church Yard.
