HOUSE OF COMMONS
LONDON SW1A OAA
Mr Bob Rankin
Chairman
Stoke-on-Trent No. 2 Group
Royal British Legion in North Staffordshire
Newcastle-under-Lyme

AH/PF

18th September, 2007

Dear Bob

Thank you for your e-mails regarding the Royal British Legion's 'Military Covenant' campaign and I appreciate and understand your concerns.
The Royal British Legion helps raise much-needed money and offers valuable support to veterans and their families and also safeguards the memory of ex-Service personnel.

I have recently witnessed this at first hand as I was closely involved with the 'Shot at Dawn' campaign which has now seen 300 soldiers, who were shot for military offences during World War I, receive full formal pardons.

Clearly, therefore, I support any campaign that aims to help to those who have fought, or lost loved ones, in conflicts around the world and I will continue to do all I can to support the Legion in Parliament.
Best wishes and kind regards

Paul Farrelly*
Member of Parliament for Newcastle-under-Lyme

*Footnote [Bob Rankin]:
In the original letter Paul Farrelly MP has added in his own hand writing  to raise the points mentioned  in my email to him  specifically with the Armed Forces Minister Bob Ainsworth.
