We can accept applications from Service leavers, or ex-Service people under 60, who are:

  • under notice of redundancy
  • at the end of a contract.

We will consider application forms accompanied by a good quality business plan for loans of up to £5000. This is repayable over three years and subject to a 5% security fee and an administration charge.

(Unfortunately we are unable to accept applications for the expansion or support of an existing business).

Training Grants for London Taxi Drivers

All London black cab drivers must pass 'the Knowledge'. In order to qualify, students must pass a series of tests on:

  • their knowledge of the streets of London and its suburbs
  • their cab driving ability

Full time training can take up to two years and students must supply their own moped and protective clothing and pay all licence and medical fees.

The Legion's London Taxi Driver Training Grant scheme can assist eligible ex-Service men or women with funding for up to 15 months to qualify for a Government-funded work-based training course for taxi cab drivers. The course lasts a maximum of 50 weeks during which time students are entitled to an allowance of £10 in addition to their Job Seeker's allowance.
