Members of the Leek Branch were quizzed at a Leek school
on January 24th when they went along to explain their
role in the Armed Forces during the last war. Some 60
pupils at All Saints Primary School have been learning
about life during wartime as part of the school
curriculum and had plenty of questions for the six
Branch members who spent the morning with them. The
children were keen to hear about life in the Services
and the experiences of those who fought for their
country. They also heard about the Home Front and how
life would have been different for them had they lived
in the 1940s. After inspecting an impressive array of
campaign medals brought along by the veterans, the
children tried on gas masks and investigated other items
of memorabilia introduced during the session.
The need to take respect
and take care of war memorials was also discussed and
the visitors from the Leek Branch were encouraged by the
positive attitude and interest shown by these young
children in keeping alive an important part of history.

and at El Alamein.
